Flying to Barbados in May?

Welcome to the first blog for BIM. This is the update you need if you're flying out in May and it's just enough information to make your vacation pack solid with places to visit and activities to do.

Going for Relaxation?

This is first thing that comes to our minds when we plan our trip the the Caribbean.. THE BEACH!!!
With the temperature getting hotter in Bim, to keep you cool, Barbados has an abundance of the most amazing beaches for you to choose from. Each coast has something unique to offer. Here is a favourite from each coast line.

Fun in the south: Miami Beach, Oistins, Christ Church
click here for more information on the Parish of Christ Church

This beach offers some rough with the smooth. Calm waters on one side and serious waves on the other. Here you can meet locals and tourists alike. For a snack, purchase some fresh bajan fish cakes from the big blue truck (there's only one) and wash down with a pineapple juice, relax and enjoy the beauty around you.

Calm on the West: Mullins Beach, St Peter
click here for more information on the Parish of St Peter

Experience the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea on the West Coast at Mullins beach. From water sports and activities to simply relaxing and taking in what's around you, Mullins is a place you'll adopt as your hot spot. The sunsets here are truly amazing to watch

Beauty in the East: Bathsheba, St Joseph
click here for more information on the Parish of St Joseph

The Surfers play ground and picnic hot spot. Here the waves are high and the favourite for surfers. A spot called Soup Bowl is where youll find the surfers riding the waves, this is a popular spot recognized internationally in the surfing world. Bajans also come to Bathsheba for a weekend break and picnic gatherings

CAUTION: Swimming at Bathsheba is DANGEROUS. If you are not with someone who knows the area well do not swim here. There are dangerous rip tides and undertows. While it is tempting to walk into the ocean over the flat coral reefs, be cautious. Incoming waves can pull you out to sea with their strong undertow. This is a place to tread carefully, to look and wonder with respect at the mighty forces of nature.

Scenic in the North: River Bay, St Lucy
click here for more information on the Parish of St Lucy

Views in the North are truly breathtaking and definetely a place for photographers and artists. Here you can visit the Animal flower Cave or have a picnic by River Bay. Alot quieter in the week but be cautious when taking a dip as currents are strong if you venture out too far.

Going for Sports?

If you're a lover of sports Click here for the Sports events in May and if you don't want to miss out on a game catch up with the sports news at Bubba's Sports Bar and Restaurant.

Going for Adventure?

Under the Sea: The Atlantis Submarine adventure is one not to miss!

Island Safari Barbados: Discover the unseen parts of Barbados in a guided 4 x 4!

Going for Nature?

As well as Barbados' beautiful beaches don't miss these places which truly capture the true nature of the island:

Welchman Hall Gully: You get an idea of what Barbados looked like originally! Watch out for the Green Monkeys!

Flower Forest: A display of the most beautiful tropical flowers, don't forget your camera!

Farley Hill national park: Truly breath taking! The Barbados Jazz Festival and Annual Barbados Reggae Festival take place here too.

Barbados at it's finest

Barbados never fails to deliver the best when it comes to service. The finest hotels and restaurants have made their mark worldwide.

You must see:

The Sandy Lane Hotel and Spa and why not have a spot of Golf at the Country Club, pure luxury in St James.

Eat at Pisces restaurant for ocean front dining in St Lawrence Gap. The food here is truly amazing!

Shop in Holetown for the finest gifts and crafts in the Parish of St James.

Three things to try in Barbados...

1. Mauby, is a drink that you either love or hate. Consumed throughout the Caribbean, the drink is made from the bark and leaves of the Colubrina elliptica flowering trees. It leaves a bitter after taste but a cold glass can quench your thirst by far. It is said to have many benefits such as reducing high blood pressure, cholesterol and Diabetes. It can be purchased in syrup form and mixed with water, brown sugar and cinnamon or to desired taste.

2. Fishcakes, made from saltfish and added spices to create a bite sized snack, delicious!!!

3. Chefette, a popular fast food restaurant on the island is a favourite with the Bajans. The roti's, burgers and crinkly chips are always on order.

Finally, don't you dare miss...

Oistins fish fry on a Friday evening, this is the place to be. Enjoy traditional Bajan cooking by the beach! The traditional flying fish with macarnoni pie, rice and salad will have your tastebuds in awe. This is where the Bajans and tourists mingle together under the stars.
